Okay, so I’ve been following the Mariners super closely this season, and like everyone else, I’m constantly asking myself: “Will they make the playoffs?” I decided to do my homework, looking at the data that can help me answer that question.
Digging into the Numbers
First, I checked the current standings. Gotta know where they stand, right? I looked at their win-loss record, their position in the AL West, and how they compare to the other Wild Card contenders. It’s a tight race, as always!

Then, I started browsing through some baseball news sites and fan forums. What are the “experts” saying? What’s the general feeling among the fans? Getting different viewpoints is important, even if some of them are, let’s say, optimistic.
Analyzing the Schedule
Next, I pulled up their remaining schedule. Who are they playing? Are they facing mostly teams above or below .500? Home games vs. away games? This stuff matters. A lot.
- I made a note of any particularly tough stretches – like a long road trip or a series of games against division rivals.
- I also looked for potential “easier” stretches that could give them a boost.
I jotted down some key games that I thought would be real turning points. Circle those on the calendar!
Considering Player Performance
Of course, the schedule is only part of the story. I also started looking at individual player stats.
- Who’s hot right now? Who’s in a slump?
- Are there any injuries that could impact the team’s performance?
- How are the key players – the stars, the starting pitchers, the closer – doing compared to their usual performance?
I spent a good chunk of time just reading player profiles and recent game summaries. Trying to get a feel for the overall team health and momentum.
I don’t have a crystal ball, obviously. But by gathering this data, and looking at the whole picture, it is much easier to see the path ahead. Go Ms!
