Today, I want to share something I tried out – tire chalking. It’s a simple way to mark your tires so you know if they’ve been moved, and can be helpful in situations like parking enforcement or just keeping track of your vehicle.
I started by grabbing some regular sidewalk chalk. You know, the kind kids use to draw on the pavement. Nothing fancy, just a basic pack from the dollar store.

Then, I went out to my car. The idea is to make a small mark on your tire and a corresponding mark on the pavement right next to it. If the car moves, the marks won’t line up anymore.
- I chose to do this on the driver’s side rear tire.
- I crouched down and made a small, but noticeable, line on the tire’s sidewall, close to where it meets the pavement.
- Right next to that mark on the tire, I made another mark on the pavement itself. I made sure they were aligned.
And that was it! It was seriously that simple. The whole process took me, like, two minutes. Now, I can easily check if my car has been moved, even a little bit, just by glancing at those chalk marks. No more wondering if I really parked in that spot or if I’m going crazy.
This isn’t some foolproof security measure, of course. But it’s a quick, easy, and cheap way to have a little more awareness of your vehicle’s position. It’s also useful for mechanic.
