Okay, so I’ve been seeing these weird-looking birds around lately, and I finally figured out what they are – Egyptian Geese! They’re not native to Texas, so I was pretty curious about how they got here and what they’re up to.
My Egyptian Goose Investigation
First things first, I snapped some pictures. Gotta document the evidence, right? They’re pretty distinctive – kinda like a goose, but with these crazy eye patches and colorful feathers. Not your typical Texas bird, for sure.

Next, I hit up the internet. I learned that these guys are originally from Africa, and they’re actually a type of shelduck, whatever that is. Apparently, they’re pretty popular in parks and zoos, so my first thought was that maybe some escaped from a local place.
I started checking out local birdwatching groups online. Turns out, I wasn’t the only one seeing them! People were posting sightings all over the place – parks, golf courses, even neighborhood ponds. It seemed like they were really spreading out.
- I noticed people mentioning that they’re pretty aggressive.
- Some folks were worried about them messing with the native ducks and geese.
- Others were just fascinated by these newcomers.
I decided to do some more digging. I found out that Egyptian Geese are pretty adaptable. They can eat all sorts of stuff – grass, seeds, even bugs. And they breed like crazy, laying a bunch of eggs at a time.
So, my conclusion? These Egyptian Geese are probably here to stay. They’re tough, they’re adaptable, and they’re definitely making themselves at home in Texas. It’s kinda cool to see something so different, but I’m also a little worried about how they’ll impact our local birds. I guess only time will tell!
