Okay, so I wanted to find some cheap ways to have fun in Austin, Texas. You know, without breaking the bank. Here’s what I did and what I found out.
My Cheap Austin Adventure
First, I grabbed my phone and started Googling “free things to do in Austin.” I mean, who doesn’t love free stuff, right?

Then, I made a list of all the things that sounded cool.
- Zilker Park… totally free!
- Barton Creek Greenbelt…hiking and maybe a swim.
- The Texas State Capitol building…free tours.
- South Congress (SoCo) for the vibes.
Next, I mapped everything out. I wanted to see how much I could realistically do in a day without feeling rushed, also I checked the weather,I don’t want to face a bad day.
I started my day at Zilker Park. Just walked around, enjoyed the sunshine, and watched some people playing frisbee. Super chill and cost me absolutely nothing.
After that, I headed to the Barton Creek Greenbelt. I did a little bit of hiking – nothing too crazy, just a nice walk in nature. I even saw some people swimming in the creek, but I wasn’t quite brave enough to jump in.
Later, I drove over to the State Capitol. I joined one of the free tours, I figured, why not learn a little something? It was actually pretty interesting, and again, totally free!
Finally, I ended my day on South Congress. I just strolled around, checking out the shops, and soaking up the * are lots of restaurants but I’m a little shy of money, so I didn’t eat out at all.
All in all, it was a super fun day, and I barely spent any money at all! It was easy. Austin is a great city, you can totally enjoy it on a budget!
