Rainier scenic view guide: Where to go & what to see.

Okay, here’s my blog post about getting that “Rainier Scenic View”:

So, I’ve been wanting to get a really good shot of Mount Rainier for, like, ever. It’s just so majestic, you know? But it’s also kinda tricky. You gotta have the right weather, the right light, and, most importantly, the right spot.

First thing I did was check the weather. Seriously, this is crucial. You don’t want to drive all the way out there and just see a wall of clouds. I used a few different weather apps, and also checked the Mount Rainier National Park website for any alerts or road closures.

Once I had a good weather window (clear skies predicted!), I started researching the best viewpoints. I knew I wanted something that wasn’t too crowded, but also had a clear, unobstructed view. I spent a good hour or so just scrolling through photos online and reading forum posts.

I finally settled on a spot. This spot, I felt pretty confident, would give me a decent view without a million people in my shot.

The next day, I packed up my gear. This included:

  • My trusty camera.
  • A couple of different lenses,I wasn’t totally sure which one I’d end up using.
  • A sturdy tripod. Gotta keep that camera steady for those long exposures!
  • Extra batteries and memory cards. Nothing worse than running out of juice right when the light is perfect.
  • Snacks and water. Because, priorities.

I got there, found a decent parking spot, and it was only a short walk to the viewpoint.

I spent the next couple of hours just experimenting with different settings, different angles, and different compositions. It was amazing! The light kept changing, the clouds were moving, and the mountain just looked… incredible.I tried a few panoramic shots, played around with shutter speed to capture the movement of the clouds, and even tried a few time-lapses.

Finally, after all the checking, packing and getting to my spot, I reviewed all the photos I * was a good day.
