Okay, so today I decided to finally tackle that list of bookstores in Port Townsend I’d been meaning to visit. I’ve heard so many good things, and, well, I’m a sucker for a good bookstore.
Getting Started
First, I needed a plan. Just wandering around seemed inefficient. I wanted to hit them all! So, I grabbed my phone and started googling.
- I searched for, “Port Townsend bookstores.” That gave me a good starting list and map.
- Next, I checked each store’s website, if they had one, to get a sense of their hours and vibe. You know, were they cozy and crammed with used books, or more modern and curated?
The Adventure Begins
Armed with my list and a rough idea of the order I wanted to visit them, I hopped in my car. Parking in Port Townsend can be a bit of a pain, especially on a nice day, so I found a spot a little ways out and decided to walk. It was a beautiful day for it anyway.
First stop: One of the bigger, more well-known stores. I browsed their new releases and, I confess, I picked up a novel that I’d been eyeing online. They also had a fantastic selection of local history books, which I found pretty cool.
After that, I went on my way to other book stores, some of them were small and lovely, hidden in allies, with different vibes.
The Treasure Hunt
I spent a good chunk of the afternoon wandering in and out of these shops. Some were exactly what I expected, others were full of surprises. I chatted with a couple of the owners – super friendly folks, all passionate about books. It’s always great to hear their recommendations and stories. It’s pretty fun to have these conversation!
Wrapping Up
By the end of the day, I had a bag full of books (maybe a few more than I intended to buy, oops!), a happy heart, and slightly tired feet. It was the perfect way to spend a day. If you’re ever in Port Townsend and love books, you absolutely have to check out their bookstore scene. It’s a real gem!
