Okay, so I was tasked with coming up with a name for our new book club. Sounds easy, right? Nope. It turned into a whole thing. First, I brainstormed all the obvious stuff. You know, “The Bookworms,” “Page Turners,” “Chapter Chatters” – super generic. I wrote them all down on a piece of paper, and I was immediately disappointed with the lack of creativity.
My Brainstorming Process
- First: I started scribbling. No filter just words.
- Then: I started to group those into themes.
- After: I started to think about our group’s vibe what.
Then, I tried to get all clever. I thought about our group’s personality. We’re a pretty quirky bunch, and we like a good laugh, so I tried some punny names. Think “Tequila Mockingbird” (too on the nose?), “Between the Wines” (maybe too much about drinking?), “The Prose and Cons” (okay, that one’s not bad, actually).I added it to my shortlist.

I spent a good hour just staring at this list, crossing things out, adding new ones, rearranging * family thought that I’m crazy. It was a mess. I even tried one of those online “book club name generators.” Total waste of time. They gave me stuff like “The Literary Lions” and “Novel Navigators.” Ugh.
Next, I decided to get more specific. What kind of books do we usually read? We’re mostly into fiction, with a good dose of fantasy and a sprinkle of sci-fi. So, I played around with words like “realm,” “myth,” “cosmos,” “narrative.” This led to some slightly better options, like “Realm Readers,” “Mythical Musings,” and “Cosmic Chapters.”I felt that I’m getting warmer.
Finally, I took a break. I walked away from the list, made some tea, and just let it all simmer in the back of my mind. And then, it hit me. We always end up having these long, rambling discussions that go way off-topic. We’re not just about the books; we’re about the connections we make. So, I came up with “The Tangent Readers.” It’s a little bit cheeky, a little bit accurate, and it feels like us. I have added it to my shortlist.
So I sent my shortlist to the group chat, and guess what they choose? Yep after all that agonizing, it’s done. I have also saved a few for later just in case we want to change.
