Okay, so I stumbled upon this “Lose the Threads” thing on the NYT, and I was like, “What the heck is this?” I’m always up for a little brain teaser, so I decided to give it a shot. Honestly, I had zero clue what I was getting myself into.
Figuring Out the Rules
First things first, I needed to understand the game. I read the instructions like three times, and I was still kinda confused. Basically, you have these words, and you gotta “lose” letters to make new words, kinda like a word ladder but more…twisty.
- Started by just staring at the screen. Yep, that’s my expert strategy.
- Clicked around a bit, trying to figure out the interface. It’s pretty simple, thankfully.
- Made a few random guesses, just to see what would happen. Spoiler alert: not much.
My “Aha!” Moment (Sort Of)
After a bit of flailing, I realized I needed to be more systematic. I started looking for words that were only one letter off from each other. Like, if I saw “THREAD,” I’d look for “TREAD” or “HEAD.”
I still took a lot of that go around in my head.
