Okay, so I saw this “huge ice bucket” thing trending and thought, “Why not?” I’m always up for a silly challenge, and it’s been brutally hot lately.
First, I needed a bucket. Not just any bucket, a huge one. I rummaged through the garage and found this old, giant plastic tub we used to use for… I don’t even remember. It was dusty, but perfect.

Next step: ice. Lots of it. I emptied out my freezer’s ice maker, but that was barely a dent. So, I made a run to the convenience store and bought, like, five giant bags of ice. The cashier gave me a weird look, but whatever.
Back home, I dumped all the ice into the tub. It was already looking pretty impressive. But I needed more. Back to the store! This time I grabbed another three bags. The cashier just shook his head. I think he thought I was crazy.
The Filling Process
- Step 1: Get the hose. I dragged our garden hose over to the tub.
- Step 2: Turn on the water. Easy enough.
- Step 3: Add water.I filled water slowly!
- Step 4: Wait…and wait…and wait. This thing was taking forever to fill! I probably stood there for a good 20 minutes, just watching the water level slowly creep up.
Finally, it was full! It was this massive, glistening, icy behemoth in my backyard. I gotta admit, it looked pretty cool.
Then came the moment of truth. I stripped down to my shorts, took a deep breath, and…plunged in! Oh. My. Goodness. It was SO COLD. Like, instantly freezing. I gasped, I shivered, I probably screamed a little (or a lot). I didn’t last long, maybe 10 seconds? But I did it! I conquered the huge ice bucket!
After I thawed out, I felt surprisingly…good. Invigorated, even. Maybe there’s something to this whole ice bath thing after all. Would I do it again? Probably not anytime soon. But it was definitely an experience!
