Okay, so I saw these super cute watermelon baskets online, and I just had to try making one myself. I mean, who doesn’t love a good summer craft, right?
First things first, I grabbed a watermelon. Not too big, not too small, just a nice, medium-sized one. Then, I hacked off the top third – you know, like you’re giving it a haircut. Don’t worry about being perfect, it’s all part of the charm!

Getting Down to Business
Next up, the messy part: scooping out all that delicious watermelon flesh! I used a big spoon and just dug in. This took a while, and my arms definitely got a workout. I saved all the juicy bits in a bowl, obviously – gotta have a snack while you craft, am I right?
- Scoop out the watermelon innards.
- Save them for later.
Once the inside was pretty much hollowed out, I took a sharp knife and carefully carved out a handle. I just eyeballed it, making a thick arch across the top. Pro tip: Don’t make the handle too thin, or it might break!
I went to use a small tool to give the basket more detials.
The Finishing Touches
I decided to keep it simple, so I just left the edges of the basket plain. I also fill them up with the watermelon pieces.
And that’s it! My very own watermelon basket. I filled it up with the watermelon I’d scooped out earlier, and it looked so darn cute. Perfect for a summer picnic or just a fun centerpiece on the table. It was a surprisingly easy project, and the results were totally worth it.
