Okay, so I’ve been dealing with these annoying canker sores for a while now. They pop up out of nowhere and make eating and talking a real pain. I did some digging online, and I saw a few things about toothpaste possibly helping, or even making things worse. So, I figured I’d try switching things up and see what happens. I kept a little log of my experiment, and here’s how it went.
Week 1: The SLS Situation
First thing I learned was to look out for something called Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) in my toothpaste. Apparently, this stuff is a foaming agent, and for some people, it can irritate your mouth and trigger canker sores. My regular toothpaste? Full of SLS. So, step one was to find an SLS-free option. I hit up the drugstore and grabbed a tube that specifically said “SLS-free” on the label. It felt a little weird at first, not as foamy as I was used to, but I figured I could get used to it.

- Day 1-3: No new sores, but the ones I had were still there, still hurting.
- Day 4-7: Felt like the existing sores were maybe starting to heal a little faster. Hard to say for sure.
Week 2: Sticking With It
Okay, one week down, and no miraculous overnight cure. But I also didn’t have any new sores popping up, which was a good sign. I decided to keep using the SLS-free toothpaste and just be patient.
- Day 8-10: The old sores were definitely smaller and less painful. I could eat without wincing, which was a huge win.
- Day 11-14: Still no new sores! And the old ones were almost completely gone. I was starting to feel like I was onto something.
Week 3: The Verdict (So Far)
Alright, three weeks in, and I’m pretty happy with the results. I can’t say for sure that the SLS-free toothpaste is a magic bullet, but it definitely seems to be helping. It’s not like the canker sores disappeared instantly, but I think the healing time was faster, and I definitely didn’t get any new ones while I was using it.
- Day 15-17: The remaind canker sores are totaly gone.
It’s like, less harsh toothpaste, less irritation, maybe less chance of those suckers forming. I brushed it carefully, and try to avoided hitting the sore spots directly.
So, my takeaway? If you’re battling canker sores, checking your toothpaste ingredients might be worth a shot. Switching to an SLS-free option could make a difference, at least it did for me. I’m going to stick with it and see how things go long-term. Will update if anything changes!
