Okay, so I’ve been meaning to dig into my old sports card collection for ages, and today I finally did it! I was specifically looking for a Gary Carter rookie card. You know, “The Kid?” Legendary Expos and Mets catcher. I remember pulling some of his cards as a kid, but rookies…those are always a bit more elusive.
The Hunt Begins!
First, I dragged out the dusty old boxes from the attic. Man, it was like a trip down memory lane. Baseball cards, basketball cards, even some weird non-sports stuff mixed in. I totally forgot I had so many!

I started by carefully sorting through the boxes. I organized them roughly by year and sport. This took forever, by the way. I kept getting distracted, looking at other cards and reminiscing.
- Found a sweet Ken Griffey Jr. rookie! Totally forgot I had that one.
- My old Michael Jordan cards were in surprisingly good shape.
- Even came across a few hockey cards, even though I barely followed hockey.
Zeroing In
After the initial sorting frenzy, I focused on the baseball cards from the late 70s and early 80s – that’s when Carter’s rookie card would have been printed. I grabbed a magnifying glass (my eyes aren’t what they used to be!) and started meticulously checking each card.
I had Topps, Fleer, and Donruss. So many cards. I checked a lot of cards, and did not find it.
I did get a good condition Gary card, but no rookie!
The (Partial) Payoff
After searching for hours, I was tired, but will keep trying to find it next time! I will find the Gary Carter rookie card someday!
