Best Chocolate Butterscotch Bars: Try This Delicious and Easy Recipe!

Okay, here’s my attempt at a blog post about making chocolate butterscotch bars, written in a casual, personal style:

So, I was craving something sweet and kinda decadent the other day, right? And I remembered these chocolate butterscotch bars my grandma used to make. I didn’t have her exact recipe, but I figured, how hard could it be? I looked up a few things online and kinda winged it. Here’s what went down:

Getting Started

First, I grabbed all my ingredients. This is the part I always mess up, forgetting something crucial. So, I made extra sure I had:

  • Butter (obviously)
  • Brown sugar (light and dark, ’cause why not?)
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla extract
  • Flour
  • Baking soda
  • Salt
  • Chocolate chips (I went semi-sweet)
  • Butterscotch chips (the stars of the show!)

Mixing it up

I started by creaming together the softened butter and both sugars. Used my trusty stand mixer, but a hand mixer or even a good ol’ wooden spoon would work. I beat it ’til it was all light and fluffy, took maybe 3-4 minutes.

Next, I cracked in the eggs, one at a time, mixing after each one. Then, a splash of vanilla. Smelled amazing already!

In a separate bowl, I whisked together the flour, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Gotta make sure that baking soda is evenly distributed, or you’ll get weird pockets.

Then, I gradually added the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until it was just combined. Don’t overmix, or your bars will be tough.

The Good Stuff

Now for the best part! I folded in the chocolate chips and the butterscotch chips. I didn’t measure, just dumped in a generous amount of both. I’d use 1 bag of each.

Baking

I greased a baking pan. I used a 9×13 inch one, but any similar size should be fine.

I then spread out all of my mixed ingredients in the pan evenly.

I popped the pan into a preheated oven. I set it to 350°F (175°C) and baked for about 25-30 minutes. You want the edges to be golden brown and the center to be mostly set. A little gooeyness in the middle is good.

Cooling (The Hardest Part)

I took the pan out of the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack. This is torture, I know, but it’s important. If you try to cut them warm, they’ll just fall apart. Patience, young padawan.

Once they were cool, I cut them into squares and devoured a few (okay, maybe more than a few). They were seriously good! Chewy, chocolatey, butterscotchy… everything I wanted.

So, that’s my little baking adventure. It wasn’t perfect (my edges were a little too brown), but it was fun, and the results were delicious. Definitely recommend giving it a try!
