Okay, so the other day I was thinking, “I gotta get a good view of Mount Rainier from Seattle.” It’s like, a must-do, right? So I did a little digging, nothing crazy, just a quick search.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to figure out the best spots. Obviously, a clear day is key. You don’t want to go all the way somewhere and just see a wall of clouds. Been there, done that, not fun.

The Hunt Begins!
I wanted a clear view, and after some searching, I found some popular suggestions.
- Kerry Park: Everyone talks about this place. It’s supposed to have a killer view of the city skyline and the mountain. Seemed like a good starting point.
- Discovery Park: This one’s a bit bigger, more of a hike involved, but I figured the views might be even better with some extra elevation.
- Some random rooftops:I am thinking to find some random rooftops.
Kerry Park First!
So, I headed to Kerry Park first. I drove, found some street parking (which was a minor miracle), and walked over. And… wow. Seriously, the view was amazing. The city was laid out right in front of me, and there was Mount Rainier, big and bold, in the background. I snapped a bunch of photos, just soaking it all in. It was pretty crowded, but totally worth it.
On to Discovery Park
Next up, Discovery Park. This was more of an adventure. I parked and started hiking, following some trails that seemed to be heading in the right direction. I’m not gonna lie, I got a little lost at one point, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right? Eventually, I found a spot with a pretty good view. It wasn’t quite as iconic as Kerry Park, but it felt more… I don’t know… earned? Like I’d really worked for it. The mountain was still there, looking majestic, just a bit further away.
Rooftops idea didn’t work.
I tried to go to some random rooftops, but I was not allowed to go there. So I gave up this plan.
The Verdict
Both spots were awesome, in their own way. Kerry Park is definitely the classic, easy-access, postcard-perfect view. Discovery Park is more for the adventurous types, who don’t mind a bit of a hike. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with either. Just pick a clear day, grab your camera (or your phone), and go! You won’t regret it.
